Provocative, Explorative, Enlightening Talks (PEE)

I first started PEE Talks when I realised there were some experiences we didn’t have exposure to in school, like knowing what it is like in a professional environment or career. The aim of PEE Talks is to host talks that enable students and teachers to learn about topics not normally taught in school. These topics may include gaming, what it's like to be a professional chef, and more. Speakers will come once a month and talk about topics they are well-versed in, like their careers (these could range from a doctor to a lawyer).

In order to make this idea into reality, I had to put a lot of time and dedication into my work, and plan the talks. When I first thought of PEE Talks, it seemed like a distant dream. Something that could be achieved in the far future. However, my parents encouraged me to try put it together, and so I managed to get in contact with Ms Laughton, the supervisor of Service Ambassadors and eventually PEE Talks. At first, I was extremely nervous, not knowing the steps to make it work, or whether Ms Laughton would approve of the idea.

To sum it up, I was scared, and doubtful.

However, after our first meeting, Ms Laughton approved of the idea, and my confidence eventually boosted ever so slightly. Filling in the Service and Action Form, I was hopeful that this could work, because it could benefit so many students, especially those who dream of careers well sought after.

Now, I’m hosting the first ever PEE Talks, with the forms, marketing, and recruitment of members completed. I’m more confident in my ideas and even opinions, because I now know that I’m capable of achieving them. Although I still get nervous, and I can’t explain myself when put on the spot, I have grown more confident in public speaking, and sharing ideas in Focus Group.

Confidence grows with practise. I will continue to lead PEE Talks and host the events, practising my confidence and building optimism.
