Y8 Spring Party
21/3/24
The Year 8 Spring Party was an event organised by the Focus Group before the Easter Break. I organised performances, while others handled the raffle, food and drinks, decorations, and more. During this time, we set up a survey to ask if people wanted to go to the party, if the price was manageable, and what activities they wanted to see.
At first, nothing was planned, and we wanted to see the year group’s reaction to the price and the party. Many complained that the entrance fee was too expensive, while some doubted our contribution, and asked if we were making profit. We were taken aback by this feedback, so after some discussion, decided to lower the price by $20.
In the midst of preparations, some members of the Focus Group were a little bit fed up with the negative comments. Some were even doubting the purpose of the event, and whether we should go ahead as planned. When our head of year asked if the event was going as planned, some didn’t want to continue with the party. I didn’t know whether we should continue, but I decided to try. At the end, the party turned out to be a success.
Before the party, I was extremely worried, and the negative feedback we received about the entry fees were not helping. However, I realised that keeping a positive mindset and always looking forward helped me a lot, especially when preparations were slow. The positive attitude affected those around me, and a compliment could go a long way.
I learnt that by being optimistic, and not giving up, you can impact those around you, cheer them up, and get the job done. Despite the comments, we needed to keep in mind that there were people looking forward to the party, and we shouldn’t have been so easily influenced or affected by things around us.
